Raise Bone Density With Vitamins, Minerals

health5

Bone loss, leading to osteoporosis, is believed to be more prevalent in older people, especially in post-menopausal women. Osteoporosis is a medical condition in which the bone losses its density, making it more prone to bone breaks. However, proper nutrition plays an important role towards bone health. Certain vitamins and minerals helps the bones grow healthy and strong, thus reducing the potential development of osteoporosis, medical experts say. This article may help you learn the important and significant vitamins and minerals you need to have an excellent bone health.

Calcium

We all know that calcium is one of the known nutrients which is key to strong and healthy bones. It is also considered as the most common mineral found in the body, which is needed in the formation of bones. Individuals aged nine and up may need to take 1000 to 1300 milligrams of calcium as their recommended daily intake. Calcium is commonly found in milk, cheese, yogurt, soybeans, and herring.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is widely known as the sunshine vitamin since we get vitamin D through sunshine. This vitamin is also needed by the bone, as well as the muscles. It is necessary for the absorption of calcium. The stronger and healthier the muscle, it functions better, improves balance and fewer falls.

Magnesium

Magnesium is also one of the nutrients which are backs up the absorption of calcium. Its benefit is increasingly acknowledged to be an important contributor to excellent bone health. There are several studies that magnesium increases bone density but more researches are still needed to establish facts. Foods rich in magnesium are molasses, sunflower seed, almonds, cashews, and dark chocolates.

Vitamin K

Vitamin K is a less known contributor to bone health. However, modern studies have found Vitamin K to be associated with great benefits to bone health. It is commonly found in green leafy vegetables such as kale, broccoli, spinach, spring onion and lettuce.

People with osteoporosis and osteopenia often resort bone drugs such as Fosamax, believing that this pharmaceutical medication may cure them with their bone disease. However, there are a number of reports that this medication potentially causes femur fractures and similar bone breaks, osteonecrosis of the jaw (a painful and disfiguring crumbling of the jaw bone), atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat) and esophageal cancer. The Construction and Development History of a Hospital

health11

Introduction

In October of 2009, the brand new Owatonna Hospital was opened in the heart of Southern Minnesota. This hospital is an excellent example of the development and construction history that is in many of the old hospitals and other health institutions. Here follows a summary of the more than 100 years of history for Owatonna Hospital.

The Early Days

In 1900, the original hospital building, which then was a two-story brick home with a barn, was obtained for $6,500 and opened its doors to patients in early 1901. In its first year, the hospital cared for 105 patients. In 1906, the first addition to the hospital was made after a donation of $10,000 was received.

From 1908 to 1932, the development of a nursing school transpired because of the demands for more trained nurses. A second addition was constructed for $101,000, in 1931, which had an additional 50 beds available. This was done due to the increased patients in need of care.

New Era

In 1961 a two-story addition was completed as part of a $1.3 million construction project. This new addition was added to the building of 1931. Later in the same decade, a further 3rd floor was added to this building.

During 1984 construction started on a new hospital that would cost $7 million to complete. This was all completed in 1985 and the hospital received a new name: the “Health Central of Owatonna.” In 1991 a Department for Mental Health opened its doors for patients and offered different mental health treatments and evaluations.

In 1997, a $1.5 million renovation occurred. These renovations altered about 10,000 square feet of the entire hospital and its facilities. Further minor renovations also took place in the years of 1991-1992, 1998-1999 and in 2001 as well.

The Modern Era

New plans were made to start construction of a new Owatonna Clinic in the 26th street location in 1999 and they looked into obtaining further land to develop a healthcare campus,. A recommendation was made in 2002 to start with the construction of a brand new hospital building, but was first based on a 3-year study.

In 2005 the recommendations for this new hospital construction were approved, and in 2006, funds totaling $46 million were released to begin with the planning and construction. In September of 2007, excavations began for the new hospital.

Finally, on October 16, 2009, the final opening of the new Owatonna Hospital took place.

Pediatric Occupational Therapy

images15

It is more of a passionate job than just earn-money activity. Usually one gets into this career if they are truly passionate about it. This then means they will not get bored or exhausted as they move along the career path.

Children need to see all that care and concern from their guardian, which the pediatrician is part of. If you are one such professional you are assured to come across all sorts of complications with developing children and will be required to offer full and voluntary support to them including even the basic lessons on how to write and relate with people which may be beyond what other people in your line are paid for. Therefore the best way to handle this career path is to take it from hobby perspective.

One main goal in this field is to have children who grow up to be independent adults with fully developed mental capabilities. It therefore includes all that a parent can offer to their children to see them grow and mature fully into adults, in addition to many other aspects that relate to child development that may not be offered by parents.

Pediatricians work not only in hospitals and medical care environments but also in areas that relate to children environments. For instance, you will find them in children’s homes, in the local communities and in voluntary organizations that care for children’s concerns.

As an occupational job, you have all freedom to choose how, when and where to work at your discretion. You can choose to work either fulltime, during part time or even on temporary basis. It all depends on what you choose as a pediatrician. There is also the freedom of working either as a permanent worker or on contractual basis.

Even with all the freedom and freewheel there is in this kind of job, one still has to take care of the basics in order to ensure smooth running of career and safe environment around them. Keep in mind that you are handling children some of who will come in the most sophisticated conditions and to which you are expected to treat. As part of mentoring the young children you involve them into various games and plays that may at times seem risky or even fatal.

For instance, you have to ensure there is nothing fatal that can be consumed by the infants in their environment. Children also have a tendency of playing risky games and which you must watch out for.

Pediatric Occupational Therapy is therefore at least an equally regarded job profession just as there are doctrine and many other outstanding jobs and careers out there. Likewise, you need to be more compassionate with Pediatric Occupational Therapy before enrolling yourself as a pediatrician.

images4

What is insomnia? Insomnia is a condition where people have trouble falling asleep, staying asleep or having a restful night sleep. Often times people who suffer from insomnia will turn to sleeping pills to get relief. Sleeping pills is a bad idea, because it will just create more problems.

What is the problem with sleeping pills? Pills are a bad idea because most sleeping pills are addictive, and basically are just a mask to what the real problem is. It also causes problems when you interact with other medications or alcohol, which can be very serious or even deadly. People who are prescribed medication are usually supposed to be on them for a few days to a few weeks only, but because they can be addictive people tend to take them longer. Pills can also cause high blood pressure, dizziness, nausea, confusion. It also can cause bizarre behavior such as sleep walking, sleep binge eating and sleep driving, in which the person will not remember.

Why it is so important to get a good night sleep? Sleep is necessary to maintain good physical and mental health. Sleep helps you to restore your body and mind, to help with memory and learning, also to help you be in a better mood. When you are sleep deprived, your body is more prone to infections, diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. Also when you are sleep deprived it can effect your job performance, such as forgetfulness or making mistakes, which can cause you to lose your job. So it is very important to get a good 7-8 hours of sleep if you are an adult, and more than 8 hours if you are younger.

How do you treat insomnia with music therapy? Insomnia is usually caused by your attitude or behavior, if you can change your attitude or behavior this may change your sleep disorder. Your mind plays a big part of all this. That is how music therapy can help. Music therapy uses binaural beats to stimulate your brain to a high level of relaxation, like a meditated state, to help you fall asleep and stay asleep. Binaural beats is music set to certain frequencies to stimulate a certain part of your brain that allows you to get some sleep. When listening to music therapy, use headphones to get the best results. The music is soft relaxing music, that has sounds of nature like waterfalls, birds, the ocean ect. When buying music therapy cds or tapes make sure that it contains binaural beats, because they sell fake ones, that claim to do the same, but do not compare, so be aware. If you have any questions on music therapy or binaural beats see link bellow.

Testicular Cancer Radiation Therapy

health6

Testicular cancer radiation therapy makes use of high intensity x-rays or various other kinds of radiation for destroying the cancer cells present in the testicles of men. Normally, testicular cancer radiation therapy is given to the patients who have already undergone surgery. This is done to prevent the recurrence of testicular cancer in them. Sometimes testicular cancer radiation therapy might also be given to patients who are suffering from recurrence testicular cancer.

The kind of radiation used for treating testicular cancer is known as external beam radiation which is produced form machines containing beams of high energy. This high energy beam is normally aimed toward the lymph nodes present in the pelvic or abdominal region. Testicular cancer radiation therapy dosage and the number of sittings would greatly depend on the stage of the disease and kind of testicular cancer. Most often testicular cancer radiation therapy is given to patients in their advanced stages of cancer.

Patients who have undergone testicular cancer radiation therapy tend to feel a bit tired and weak. Some might experience nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting. These after effects of the radiation therapy treatments are temporary ones but some might even experience for a longer period of time. Long side effects can include even incidence of heart disease, infertility and even another cancer. Doctors or physicians suggest radiation therapy only for men who might not undergo chemotherapy and for elderly men who do not have any other choice.

Out of the two types of testicular cancer seminoma types are found to respond well to radiation therapy than non seminoma cancer types. The red blood cells are the most affected by radiation therapy and hence it can lead to mild anemia. During radiation therapy the patients might not feel any discomfort. The patients are asked to lie on a cushioned table that is flat and the special x-ray beam would be directed on the affected region. The treatment is normally painless and spans to only few minutes. They can be very similar to the exposure to normal x-ray machines.

The treatment can be divided as smaller size doses spanning from ten to fifteen minutes time each. Normally the treatment is given only once and also as an outpatient. Nearly fifteen to twenty visits might be required depending on the extent and spread of the disease. Men who have undergone testicular cancer radiation therapy are asked to wait for a minimum of one year and then conceive. A Quick Primer on Water Soluble Vitamins

images18

What Are Water Soluble Vitamins?

This category includes Vitamins C, Folate or Folic Acid, and all the B-vitamins. Vitamins in this class are absorbed quickly and readily excreted, with minimal to no storage by your body.

An important exception is Vitamin B12, it is critical to many metabolic processes and therefore your body actually reabsorbs it in the part of the small bowel named the ileum. This is why it takes a long time to develop a B12 deficiency and why it is a somewhat rare deficiency in developed countries.

People with certain types of autoimmune processes such as pernicious anemia, longtime strict vegetarians, and those who have had a significant portion of their ileum removed or injured by inflammatory bowel diseases are more susceptible to B12 deficiency.

Safety and Toxicity of Water Soluble Vitamins

Yes, water soluble vitamins have a lower risk of buildup and toxicity, but you still can have toxic effects from certain ones:

Vitamin B6 can cause nerve problems (peripheral neuropathy) in very high doses. This happens at doses of 1000mg a day, which you can’t get from food alone. Rarely this can happen from as little 300mg per day.

High doses of Niacin (Vitamin B3) can cause flushing. This is not a toxicity, but actually a side effect. When niacin is used as a prescription medication for high cholesterol sometimes patients are advised to take aspirin with it to minimize this side effect.

Alcohol Misuse and Thiamine

Thiamine (B1) is very important for brain function and is often low in alcoholics. In fact, if anyone has even a question of possible alcohol abuse in the hospital they are often started on thiamine.

Alcohol use depletes your body’s Thiamine, and can lead to an irreversible psychosis known as Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome.

Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic syndrome is a group of risk factors that together increase your risk for:

Coronary artery disease (heart attack)
Cerebrovascular disease (stroke)
Type 2 Adult Onset Diabetes

Recent research discovered that people with metabolic syndrome had lower levels of:

Vitamin B1 (thiamine)
Vitamin B3 (niacin)
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid)

Biotin and Muscle Cramps

Biotin is a water soluble B vitamin also called vitamin H. A recent research study tried using Biotin on patients that were getting painful muscle cramps during dialysis, since these patients are low in water soluble vitamins:

Biotin supplementation of 1000mcg (1mg) per day reduced cramps promptly.

Vitamins lost in Kidney Injury or Dialysis

Water soluble vitamins can be lost during dialysis – patients are more likely to have low levels or be deficient of several water soluble vitamins, especially on the restricted dialysis diets.

A recent research article suggests that supplementation with the following vitamins may be helpful in persons with dialysis:

Vitamin B1 (thiamine)
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine)
Vitamin B9 (Folate/folic acid)
Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin)
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid)

Several Healthy Lifestyle Changes For Dieting

health17

Everyone possesses the power to make positive, healthy lifestyle adjustments. Whenever sticking to a best weight loss plan making those healthy and positive lifestyle modifications will be a lot simpler. A couple changes are decreasing anxiety, acquiring enough sleep as well as consuming nourishing foods.

Tension results in extra fat in many manners. The first scenario includes raising levels of cortisol which will slow down the metabolism. When metabolic rate slows a human body will burn fewer food calories. Therefore, if people do not minimize caloric intake, then body fat is added.

One more way stress results in extra fat is people generally stuff themselves when stressed. People usually crave food products whenever stressed. These foods are generally not healthy. As opposed to healthy veggies and fruits, people crave salty, sugary and fatty products such as candy bars, ice cream and potato chips. These kinds of food items are high in damaging ingredients which lead to excessive weight.

Luckily, there are positive and healthy lifestyle adjustments people can add which assist in lowering tension. These healthy and positive lifestyle changes are laughter, yoga, martial arts and listening to music. These types of stress relieving strategies help people control anxiety. As soon as people can cope with stress, eliminating weight is simpler.

One more positive and healthy lifestyle adjustment people may add to daily routines is getting plenty of sleep. Getting adequate sleep will allow the human body to properly process food products rather than these food products turning into fat. In addition, whenever the human body acquires enough sleep damaged cell membranes can be repaired.

Studies have proven a link involving sleep deficiency and body weight. Whenever a person does not get plenty of sleep more foods are usually consumed during their day. Hence, people should attempt to sleep seven or eight hours each night. Plus, the room should be completely dark with no sounds.

The last positive, healthy lifestyle change a person might implement within daily routines is consuming nutritionally sound food items. When following a best weight loss plan eating healthy foods will be easy. Healthy foods have many nutrients a body must have whereas unhealthy food products have substances the body cannot digest. If a human body is unable to break down food products, these kinds of food products change into fat.

Implementing positive, healthy lifestyle changes is a breeze having proper guidance. Decreasing tension, obtaining enough sleep plus consuming nutritious food products are only a few healthy, positive lifestyle adjustments a person may want to add to everyday routines. Whenever using a person’s best weight loss plan dropping pounds is less difficult than people might think.
